EMPORIA STATE SOCCER FELL IN NON-CONFERENCE MIAA MATCHUP

The Hornets fell 3-2 to Fort Hays State on Sunday

September 17, 2017- Emporia State soccer fell 3-2 against Fort Hays State on Sunday. The Hornets are now 4-2-0 on the season after the loss.

The Hornets went down early in the match as Fort Hays' Eden Stoddard score her first goal of the match in the 12th minute of play. Stoddard would score her second goal in the 24th minute of the match to extend the Tigers lead to 2-0. The Tigers held this lead late into the second half.

Emporia State got on the board at the 74:46 mark on a header by Tanna Bennefiel assisted by Leah Mettam. The Hornets tied the game within a minute of their first goal when Erica Self scored on a shot into the upper right corner assisted by Savannah Hallier at the 75:37 mark. The Tigers regained the lead in the 84th minute on an unassisted goal by Jasmine Beaulieu that went in off the crossbar. The Hornets had two corner kicks that gave them opportunities to tie the match in the final three minutes in which they were unable to capitalize on. 

The Hornets will be back in action Friday, September 22 as they travel to Nebraska Kearney to open MIAA play.
