September 22, 2017- Emporia State soccer received their first draw against Nebraska Kearney on Friday.
In the double overtime match, the Hornets were outshot 10-9 by the Lopers. The Hornets controlled the first half and took a 1-0 lead into half time on a goal from Leah Mettam from the top of the box in the 23rd minute of the match. The Lopers tied the match in the 83rd minute when molly Willis scored on an assist from Kelsie Lenn. Both teams defenses held strong through the overtime periods to force the draw despite Emporia State's opportunity to take the lead at 109:51 on a shot by Ashton Taylor that missed high.
The Hornets will be back in action Sunday, September 24 as they travel to Hays, Kansas to take on Fort Hays State for the second time this season.
