September 1, 2017-The Emporia State soccer team got off to a good start with a 2-0 win over Harding in the opening round of the MIAA-GAC Challenge in St. Joseph, Mo. on Friday afternoon.

The Hornets took the lead with a header from Sammy Boese in the 40
th minute of action. Emporia State maintained the one goal lead until the 74
th minute when the Hornets took advantage of a Harding an own goal to go up 2-0.

For the game the Hornets outshot the Bisons 14-9 with a 12-1 advantage in shots on goal. Bethany Reeves became the first Hornet freshman keeper to record a shutout win in a season opener, facing nine shots with only one on goal.

The Hornets will be back in action on Sunday, September 3 at 11:00 a.m. when they take on Ouachita Baptist in St. Joseph, Mo.

th win as a collegiate head coach.
