EMPORIA STATE SOFTBALL SWEPT AT CENTRAL MISSOURI

Hornets led early in both games

April 15, 2017-Emporia State had early leads in both games before getting swept at Central Missouri on Saturday afternoon in Warrensburg, Mo.  The Hornets lost 11-3 in game one and 8-3 in the second game.

GAME ONE
The Hornets scored two unearned runs in the top of the first.  Sarah Glass scored when Hailey Cope reached on an error then Jacie Stephens came home when Danielle Sprinkle reached on an error from the shortstop. The Jennies took the lead on a two run home run by Aubrey Daniel to cap a three run second inning. Annie Rockley tied the game with a solo home run in the top of the third but that would be the last score for Emporia State. 
Central Missouri scored five runs in the bottom of the third and then added three more in the fifth to invoke the run rule.
Rockley was two for three with a solo home run. Eryn Stockman took the loss, giving up eight runs, six of them earned on eight hits in 2.1 innings.  Sprinkle pitched the final 2.1 innings and allowed three runs on four hits.

GAME TWO
Hailey Cope and Katie Rae Nordman each had RBI singles in the first for another 2-0 lead after half an inning.  Central Missouri took the lead with a four run third inning, capped by a three run home run by Courtni Smith.  The Jennies went up 8-2 with another four run inning in the fifth inning, with Courtni Smith hitting another three run homer to cap the scoring.  Emporia State added another run in the top of the seventh when Jacie Stephens double in Hailey Cope to pull within 8-3.
Annie Rockley was two for four with a run scored while Stephens went one for four with a run and a RBI.  Stockman gave up eight runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings for the loss.

Emporia State will wrap up the regular season next weekend, starting with a double header at Northwest Missouri.
