February 23, 2017 - The #13 Lady Hornets cruised to a 98-52 win over Northeastern State in White on Thursday evening, clinching a berth to the MIAA Tournament in Kansas City.
The RiverHawks scored the first four points of the game before the Lady Hornets went on a 13-0 run to take a 13-4 lead at the 5:13 mark of the first quarter. At the end of the first, Emporia State led 16-6 and was holding Northeastern State to 15.4% from the field.
The Lady Hornets outscored the RiverHawks 29-10 in the second quarter to lead 45-16 at the half. Emporia State had 18 points in the paint and 12 points off turnovers in the first half. Through the first half, the Lady Hornets shot 50% from the field and three point range.
In the third quarter, Emporia State had 18 points in the paint and six second chance points to lead 74-34 headed into the fourth. The Lady Hornets shot 52.2% from the field and had ten threes on the way to a 98-52 win over the RiverHawks.
Addie Lackey had 18 points, shooting four for eight from three point range and seven for 12 from the field. Kathryn Flott had her ninth double-double on the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds (six offensive), shooting seven for eight from the line and five for ten from the field. Kyrstie Miller added 11 points with three assists and three steals, shooting five for six from the stripe. Kelly Moten and Morgan Lauden each had ten points, Moten with six assists and six rebounds. Lauden had eight rebounds, five assists and shot four for five from the field, including two for two from three point range off the bench. Emporia State outrebounded Northeastern State 51-18, grabbing 22 offensive rebounds.
Addie Lackey passed Casey Cookson (1990-94) with her first five points of the night for 28th on the Lady Hornets all-time scoring list. She then passed her mother, Kristie Nelson-Lackey (1986-90), later in the game who had 1,028 points for 27th on the all-time scoring list, finishing the night with 1,031 career points.
Kelly Moten passed Debbie Glenn (2006-10) for fifth on the Lady Hornets all-time free throws list, totaling 442 career free throws. Moten also passed Cassondra Boston (2006-10) for sixth on Emporia State's all-time assists list with 576 career assists.
The #13 Lady Hornets finish regular season play on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1:30 p.m. against #24 Central Oklahoma at home. This will be the final game in White Auditorium for Kelly Moten, Kathryn Flott and Megan Holloway as they play in the Senior Day game.
