February 25, 2017 - The #13 Lady Hornets were led to a 76-60 win over #24 Central Oklahoma by Kelly Moten, nearly missing a triple double with 27 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds.
The top 25 match-up held true in the first quarter, ending in a 19-17 Broncho lead. The Lady Hornets went on a 9-2 run to open the game, led by two threes from Kyrstie Miller. Central Oklahoma went on an 11-2 run of their own to take a 13-11 lead with 3:19 remaining in the first quarter. Megan Womack ended the quarter with a buzzer-beater tip-in to take lead.
The Bronchos maintained the lead until an 8-2 Emporia State run to tie the game 25-25 at the 6:22 mark of the second quarter from an Addie Lackey three-pointer. The Lady Hornets would not take the lead, 30-29, until 4:21 to play in the second quarter from a Moten layup. Emporia State led the rest of the quarter, leading by as much as 12 points at 45-33 with 24 seconds to play in the half. The Lady Hornets had 13 points off turnovers and seven second chance points in the second quarter. At the half, Moten had 15 points followed by Lackey with 14 points, 12 of Lackey's 14 coming from three-point range.
Emporia State kept the lead through the entire third and fourth quarters, not allowing Central Oklahoma any closer than six points at 47-41 with 6:23 left in the third.
Moten led all players with 27 points and 11 assists, adding eight rebounds to her stat line on Senior Day. She shot nine for 18 from the field and seven for ten from the line. Lackey followed with 20 points, shooting seven for 14 from the field and five for eight from the arc. Kyrstie Miller and Jacee Kramer each added another nine points and both pulled down five rebounds. The Lady Hornets shot 50% beyond the arc and 40.3% from the field.
With her 27 points, Moten moved to fourth on the Lady Hornet all-time scoring list with 1,847 career points. Moten passed both Tara Holloway (1996-2000, 1,839 points) and Cassondra Boston (2006-10, 1,844 points).
Lackey also moved up on the Lady Hornet all-time scoring list with her 20 points, finishing with 1,051 career points. She passed Stacy Humphrey (1992-96, 1,045 points) for the 26th spot.
The Lady Hornets will be the third seed in the MIAA Tournament in Kansas City. They will play their first tournament game at 12:00 noon on Friday, March 3 against either Fort Hays or Missouri Southern in Municipal Auditorium.
