November 20, 2017- Emporia State women's basketball fell 74-66 on Monday to Newman. The Lady Hornets fall to 2-2 on the season with the loss.
The first quarter was played even by both teams ending tied at 16-16. The Lady Hornets jumped out to a six point lead in the second quarter taking a 32-26 lead into the locker room at half, but the Jets fought back in the third quarter to gain the lead at 48-46. The Jets would stay in control through the final quarter hitting two late threes to take the breath out of the Lady Hornets in the final minutes leading to the 74-66 final.
The Lady Hornets shot 12-25 from the free throw line while the Jets shot 23-33. The Jets scored 18 points off turnovers while the Lady Hornets scored 17. Emporia State led 11-1 in second chance points.
The Lady Hornets were led by Tyra Jones with 18 points and 12 rebounds in 32 minutes. Marissa Preston, Jacee Kramer and Kali Martin each added 9 points for the Lady Hornets. Jessica Wayne grabbed six boards while Madison Ralston pulled in four.
