November 11, 2017- Emporia State men's basketball fell Saturday 70-66 to Southwest Minnesota. The Hornets fall to 0-2 on the season with the loss.
It was a competitive game throughout the 40 minutes of play with each team exchanging blows. The Hornets trailed 34-33 at the half after being outshot 43.3% to 50% from the field and 25% to 36.6% from the three point line. In the second half both teams improved their shooting but the Hornets were still outshot 52.4% to 57.7% and could not overcome the deficit being outscored in the second half 36-33. The Hornets were outscored in the paint 42-30, 11-9 off of turnovers and 6-4 on second chance points. The Hornets were out rebounded by the Mustangs 29-23.
The Hornets had nine players who scored in the game led by Brandon Hall with 30 points on 11-14 shooting, 8-8 from the free throw line and three assists and three rebounds in 32 minutes of play. Brian Morton added eight points for the Hornets while Stephaun Limuel followed with seven.
The Hornets will be back in action on Thursday November 16 as they play host to Kansas Wesleyan. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in White Auditorium.
