October 6, 2017- Emporia State soccer took a 3-0 victory over Southwest Baptist on Friday in Bolivar. The Hornets advance to 5-4-2 on the season, 1-2-1 in the MIAA.
In the shutout win the Hornets out-shot the Bearcats 16-14. The first half was a defensive battle between the two teams with the first goal of the match coming from Kennedy Hoffman in the 68th minute on an assist from Olivia Miller. The Hornets took control of the match after that, scoring again to extend their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Tanna Benefiel on a shot off a deflection from the top of the box in the 79th minute. Olivia Miller finished the match with the Hornets final goal with ten seconds left in the match to achieve the 3-0 victory. In goal, Bethany Reeves recorded her third shutout of the season and had five saves on the match.
The Hornets will be back in action Sunday, October 8 as they travel to Joplin, Mo. to take on Missouri Southern.
