October 29, 2017- Emporia State soccer shut out Nebraska Kearney and scored a golden goal to win 1-0 over the Lopers. The Hornets will advance to the MIAA Tournament with the win.
In the match the Hornets had 8 fouls to 16 for the Lopers. The Lopers outshot the Hornets 19-12 while the Hornets outshot the Lopers in the two overtime periods 5-4. The first three frames were battled by the teams defenses allowing no goals until the final minute of the second overtime when Emporia States Ashlynn Summar converted on a header shot into the top left corner on an assist from Olivia Miller.
With the win, the Hornets will advance to the MIAA Tournament for the fourth time in the past five years. The Hornets will face top ranked Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo on Wednesday November 1.
