EMPORIA STATE SOCCER SEASON COMES TO AN END AT #1 CENTRAL MISSOURI IN MIAA TOURNEY

Hornets fall 4-0 to Jennies

November 1, 2017-Emporia State saw it's season come to an end with a 4-0 loss at #1 Central Missouri in the MIAA Tournament Quarterfinals.

Earlier in the season, the Hornets were the first team to score on the Jennies and are still the only team to hold a lead against the nation's top ranked team. UCM made sure Emporia State would need to come from behind this time as Abby Rhodes scored the first goal just 2:58 into the match.  The Jennies took a 2-0 lead in the 13th minute when Baylie Edwards scored off a deflected kick from a Hornet defender.  Rhodes second goal came with under ten minutes left in the half when Rhodes got her second goal of the night.  Rhodes completed her hat trick in the 56th minute as UCM advanced to the MIAA Tournament semifinals.

ESU keeper Bethany Reeves had a career high ten saves on the match as the Hornets were outshot 29-7 on the night with the Jennies enjoying a 14-2 advantage in shots on goal. Central Missouri also had eight corner kicks while Emporia State did not have any.

The Hornets end their season 8-9-2.  They ended the regular season with a .500 or better record for the fifth straight year.  They are set to return nine players that started at least ten matches this year and 15 that were credited with at least one start on the season.
