October 27, 2017- Emporia State won 3-0 over Washburn in the Turnpike Tussle on Friday. The Hornets advance to 3-6-1 in the MIAA and keep their hope of an MIAA tournament appearance alive with the win.
The Hornets were outshot 17-11 on the match but were able to hold on to the shut out on goalkeeper, Bethany Reeves' seven saves in the match. In the first half the Hornets were outshot 8-2 but took a 1-0 lead into halftime with a goal from Olivia Miller on an assist from Leah Mettam on a foul kick in the 15th minute. Ashton Taylor scored the Hornets second goal on a heel touch shot assisted by Maria Walden on a foul kick in the 62nd minute. The Hornets third goal of that match came from Kennedy Hoffman on a rebound goal after a shot from Jacki Martinek that bounced off the crossbar.
The Hornets will be back in action on Sunday October 29th as they face Nebraska Kearney at the ESU Pitch.
