EMPORIA STATE SOCCER FALLS 3-0 TO MISSOURI WESTERN

Hornets fell 3-0 to Griffons

October 22, 2017- Emporia State fell 3-0 on Sunday to Missouri Western. The Hornets fall to 6-8-2 on the season, 2-6-1 in the MIAA.

In a very physical match between the two teams there were 19 fouls called on each team and four yellow cards handed out. The Hornets were outshot 18-6 in the match 11-3 on goal. In the 25th minute of the game the Griffons benefitted from a handball call inside the box and scored on a penalty kick from Bridget Blessie. The second goal of the match came from Ashlyn Powers in the 48th minute of the match on an assist from Sydney Cluck. The final goal of the match came with 10 seconds remaining when Cassidy Menke scored on an unassisted shot.

In goal, Bethany Reeves had eight saves in 90:00 minutes of play. For the Hornets Maria Walden led in shots taken with three while Jacki Martinek, Kennedy Hoffman and Olivia Miller each took one.

The Hornets will be back in action on Friday October 27 as they host Washburn in the soccer turnpike tussle.
