October 13, 2017-Emporia State became the first team to score on Central Missouri this year, but the top ranked Jennies got two goals in the final five minutes of the first half to post a 2-1 victory over the Hornets Friday night in Warrensburg, Mo.
Olivia Miller played a ball of a deflection into the right corner of the net in the 14th minute to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead. It was the first time the Jennies have trailed against an MIAA team in over a year, since a 2-1 loss at Central Oklahoma on October 7, 2016. The last time Central Missouri had trailed in a home match since a 1-0 loss to Northeastern State on October 18, 2015.
The Jennies tied the game with 4:29 left in the first half when Callie Henshaw's shot deflected in off Hornet keeper Bethany Reeves hands just inside the bar. Abby Rhodes gave Central Missouri less than two minutes later when she scored with just 3:01 left in the half.
Neither team would score in the second half with Emporia State getting off just two shots after intermission.
With the loss Emporia State drops to 6-5-2 on the season and 2-3-1 in the MIAA. Central Missouri improved to 13-0-0 overall and 6-0-0 in league play. The Hornets will travel to St. Charles, Mo. on Sunday to take on Lindenwood. Kick-off against the Lions in Hunter Stadium is set for 11:00 a.m.Â
