September 23, 2016 - The Emporia State soccer team lost 1-0 to Neb.-Kearney Friday afternoon at home to drop to 2-3-2. The Lopers scored the only goal with 57 seconds left in regulation.
FIRST PERIOD
In the first half of play, there were a total of 13 shots taken, nine by the Hornets. The Lopers had three shots in the first ten minutes of play before Emporia State had seven shots over the next 12 minutes. Neb.-Kearney would not have another shot until the 38:59 mark. Emporia State also had three kicks to Neb.-Kearney's none.
THE FINAL MINUTES
The Hornets had 12 shots in the second half of play compared to the Loper's eight shots. Neb.-Kearney scored in a last minute scramble, first taking a shot that would be saved by Yadira Rivera. Kailtyn Pawloski then scored off the deflection to win the game for the Lopers.
THE NUMBERS
Emporia State outshot Neb.-Kearney 21-12 throughout the game and earned eight corner kicks to the Loper's one. Rivera had four saves on the day. Maddie Taylor had five shots, three of them on goal. Maria Walden had four shots followed by Elizabeth Andersag with three.

Emporia State will host Fort Hays on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 2:00 p.m. at ESU Pitch. This will be the first MIAA conference game for the Hornets.
