September 2, 2016-The Emporia State soccer team battled Ouachita Baptist to a scoreless tie over 110 minutes to open the season in Arkadelphia, Ark. on Friday evening. It is the first tie to open a season for the Hornets since 2011.
TIGHT FIRST PERIOD
The two teams played an even first 45 minutes with Emporia State taking seven shot to five for Ouachita, while the Tigers had three corners to the Hornets one in the opening half.
CHANGING MOMENTUM
The Hornets started to control play in the second half as they outshot the Tigers 6-3 and had two corners to none for Ouachita in the second 45 minutes.
EVERYTHING BUT THE BACK OF THE NET
Emporia State outshot Ouachita Baptist 7-2 in the two overtimes, including a 4-0 advantage in the final ten minutes. The Hornets had two shots in the final 1:55 of the first OT and two more in the final 3:11 of the second extra period but could not get the golden goal.
GETTING CHIPPY
The two teams combined for a total of 15 fouls, five yellow cards and one red card. The Hornets were called for ten fouls and had three yellow cards and a red card in the match.
