EMPORIA STATE TENNIS FINISHES SPRING BREAK TRIP WITH SWEEP

Hornet men win 6-1, women 6-2 at Quincy

March 19, 2016-The Emporia State men's and women's tennis teams finished their spring break road trip with a pair of wins on Saturday at Quincy.  The men won 6-1 while the women took a 6-2 victory in duals that were halted after a decision was clinched due to weather.

MEN
The Hornet shuffled their lineup a bit and still came away with a 6-1 victory.  Gerard Pont and Louis Ledin started things with an 8-3 win at #2 doubles while Farhan Sadique and Collin Connor won 8-4 at #3 doubles.  Gerard Pont and Keenan Smith played at #1 and gave Emporia State a clean sweep of doubles with a 9-8 (8-6) win.
Connor at #6 and Pont at #1 both picked up 6-2, 6-2 wins in singles to clinch the dual win.  Mota won 6-4, 7-5 at #2 singles while Ledin fell 7-5, 7-5 at #3 singles.  Smith and Sadique's matches at #4 and #5 were not started.

WOMEN
Quincy took and early lead with an 8-4 win at #3 doubles to start the dual. Kaley Clark and Lori Ahuja evened things with an 8-5 win at #2 and Tawni Griffey and Amy Fugit won 9-8 (7-5) at #1 doubles to give the Hornets a 2-1 lead going to singles.
The Hornets then won four of five singles matches to take the dual 6-2.  At the top of the order, Griffey won 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) at #1 singles and Clark won 6-3, 7-6 (13-11) at #2 in a pair of hard fought matches. Amy Fugit won 6-3, 6-3 at #3 and Lori Ahuja won 6-2, 6-4 at #4 to round out the Hornet victories.

UP NEXT
Although the Spring Break portion of the road trip is over, the Hornets will stay on the road for their next duals as they return to MIAA play at Washburn.  First serve for the men will be on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. while the women will play at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday in Topeka, Kan.
