March 12, 2016 - The Hornets split day two with the Ichabods to end their four game Turnpike Tussle. Emporia State took the first game with a 7-4 win and dropped the second game 5-7.
GAME ONE TO THE HORNETS
Washburn scored all four of their runs in the first two innings, leading 4-0 until the fourth inning when Emporia State would get on the board. With one out, Sarah Glass went to work, singling to left field, stealing second and then advancing to third on a wild pitch. Danielle Sprinkle hit a sac fly to left field to send Glass home and put the Hornets on the board, trailing 4-1. After a scoreless fifth inning, the Hornet bats came alive, scoring five runs off of four hits to take the lead 6-4. The final run came in the seventh inning when yet another Sprinkle sac fly would send in a run. Glass hit two for three in game one while Sprinkle had four RBI and a two run home run. Eryn Stockman picked up another win to improve to 8-2 on the season. Stockman pitched all seven innings with four strike outs allowing only seven hits.
ICHABODS FINISH THE SPLIT
Washburn took advantage early, scoring a run in each of the first three innings to lead 3-0. The Hornets answered in the fourth inning when Erica Harper hit a double down the right field line to start the bats. Holly Hinkel hit a single to left center to send Harper home and trail 3-1. Marly Carmona then singled to right center, sending Hinkel home and closing the gap 3-2. Emporia State tied the game in the fifth inning on a Sarah Glass single to short stop, sending Morgan Swisher home. The Hornets scored a run in the sixth and the seventh inning to take a 5-3 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. Washburn's Lacie Myers hit a walk-off grand slam to win the game 7-5. Carmona and Harper each hit two for three, Carmona with two RBI. Hinkel hit two for two while Danielle Sprinkle hit four for two.

The Hornets will take on Texas A&M International on Wednesday, March 16 at Turnbull Field for a nonconference match-up. First pitch of the double header will be at 3:00 p.m.
