#22 LADY HORNETS FINISH TURNPIKE TUSSLE SWEEP WITH 98-61 WIN

Seven Lady Hornets with double digits

February 27, 2016 - The #22 Lady Hornets finished their Turnpike Tussle sweep, defeating Washburn 98-61 Saturday afternoon in White Auditorium. Seven Lady Hornets scored double digits.

EARLY RUN
There were four lead changes in the first five minutes of the game, leading to a 10-9 Lady Hornet advantage with 5:16 left in the first quarter. Emporia State went on a 12-4 run to finish the quarter leading 22-13. The Lady Hornets were six for six from the stripe at the end of the quarter.

ICHABODS CLOSE GAP
The Ichabods used a 9-0 run, spanning about two minutes in the middle of the second quarter, to close the gap 32-27. The half ended on an Addie Lackey jumper, Emporia State leading 36-30.

HIGH SCORING THIRD
The Lady Hornets outscored the Ichabods 31-24 in the third quarter, opening up the lead 67-54. Sandra Ngoie and Kelly Moten combined eight of the first 12 points in the third quarter to put Emporia State up 43-35 with 8:15 to play. Washburn got as close as 45-40 with 7:17 left in the quarter. At the 1:30 mark, Megan Holloway would convert on a three pointer, putting the Lady Hornets up 65-49.

LADY HORNETS TAKE THE TUSSLE
Emporia State outscored Washburn 31-7 in the fourth quarter, going four for seven from three point range. The Lady Hornets totaled 62 points in the second half.

SHARING THE WEALTH
Seven Lady Hornets scored in double digits Saturday afternoon. Kelly Moten led all scorers with 22 points, going nine for nine from the free throw stripe. With her 22 points, Moten passed Rachel Hanf (2009-13 1,218 points) for 19th on ESU's all-time career scoring list. Moten also had six assists, five steals, and three blocks. Addie Lackey had 13 points, Sandra Ngoie close behind with 12 points. Kelsey Barnwell, Megan Holloway, Jacee Kramer, and Kyrstie Miller each had 10 points for the Lady Hornets. Kathryn Flott led with ten rebounds, Miller with eight rebounds. Emporia State had only five turnovers compard to Washburn's 12 turnovers. The Lady Hornets were 28 for 30 from the free throw line and 12 for 27 from three point range.

UP NEXT
The #22 Lady Hornets will play at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday night in Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. for the MIAA Tournament. The opponent is yet to be determined.
