February 27, 2016 - The #30 Hornets defeated Pittsburg State 22-7 in seven innings on Saturday afternoon in Pittsburg, Kan.
BEHIND EARLY
At the end of the first inning, the Hornets trailed the Gorillas 2-1, scoring on an Evan Koehler home run. Emporia State did not take the lead until the top of the third inning when Koehler singled up the middle, sending in Alex White and Ryan McBroom to go up 3-2. The Hornets never trailed after the third inning.
BY THE NUMBERS
Emporia State pounded out 21 hits as a team with four home runs. Daniel LaMunyon went two for three with six RBI and a grand slam. Evan Kohler went three for five with four RBI and a home run. Ryan McBroom went three for four with three RBI and a home run. Tucker Perkins also had a home run on the day with one at bat. Dalton Wheat went two for five with three RBI. Derek Francis and Alex White each went two for three, Francis with two RBI. Matt Slauter scattered six hits over 5.0 innings, giving up four runs to pick up the win.
