November 13, 2016-The #4 Lady Hornets trailed by as many as five points and were behind by one at the quarter break before rolling to a 102-50 win over Oklahoma Baptist in the MIAA-GAC Challenge in White Auditorium.
There were three ties and five lead changes in the first eight minutes of the game before the Bison went on a 5-0 run to take a 16-11 lead with 1:07 left in the quarter. A shelby baker bucket and two free throws from Kelly Moten let the Lady Hornets close to within 16-15 as the first period ended. Emporia State used an 8-0 run take the lead for good early in the second quarter. They would finish out the half going six for six from the free throw line in the last 50 seconds to go to the locker rooms with a 46-31 lead.
Emporia State would score the first ten points of the second half to extend their run to 16-0 and took a 56-31 lead with 7:31 left in the third quarter. The Bison would not get closer than 23 points the rest of the game. The Lady Hornets emptied their bench with 4:19 left while in the middle of a 22-0 game ending run over the final six minutes. The last 12 points came from freshmen and sophomores.
Kelly Moten led five Lady Hornets in double figures with 19 points and added six rebounds, three steals, three assists and two blocked shots. Kyrstie Miller had a career high 18 points with nine rebounds while Addie Lackey had 17 points and four assists. Jacee Kramer had 11 points and Jessica Wayne added ten for the Lady Hornets.
This was the 69th time in school history the Lady Hornets have topped 100 points and the 26th time Emporia State has scored at least 100 points while holding their opponent to 50 or less.
The Lady Hornets are back in action on Tuesday night when they play host to Tabor. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. from Slaymaker Court in White Auditorium.
