EMPORIA STATE SOCCER POSTS SECOND STRAIGHT SHUTOUT IN WIN OVER SBU

Hoffman with two goals for the Hornets

October 7, 2016-Emporia State scored goals in bunches in both the first and second half on the way to a 4-0 win over Southwest Baptist on Friday afternoon at the ESU Pitch.  It was the second straight shut out for the Hornets.
 
Kennedy Hoffman got the Hornets on the board on a break away goal 13:33 into the match.  She took the ball about 45 yards out and dribble past a defender before beating the Bearcat keeper.  Just 1:11 later Maria Walden found Tanna Benefiel in front of the goal and Benefiel put the ball in the net from five yards out for a 2-0 Emporia State lead.
 
The second half got underway with Maddie Taylor scoring an unassisted goal for a 3-0 lead 5:15 into the second period.  Hoffman bookended the scoring when she took a pass from Tiffany Jones and scored from the right side for the final 4-0 margin.
 
Emporia State outshot Southwest Baptist 21-8 on the match with a 9-3 advantage on corner kicks.  Astrid Buttner Costa recorded her second straight shut out as she had three saves on the night.
 
The Hornets are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Missouri Southern.  Kick-off from the ESU Pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
