EMPORIA STATE SOCCER DROPS LAST MINUTE MATCH AT NEB.-KEARNEY

Second time this year the Hornets have fallen in last 90 seconds to UNK

October 30, 2016-Halloween Eve was a scary day for the Emporia State soccer team as they fell 1-0 on a goal with 1:17 left at Neb.-Kearney on Sunday afternoon in Kearney, Neb.  It was the second time this year the Hornets have fallen in the last 90 seconds to the Lopers and the third straight match that has been decided in the final seven minutes between the two.

The Hornets had a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks and a 5-3 edge in shots during the first half, but could not convert a goal.  In the second half the Lopers had the advantage in shots at 7-3 and took the only corner after intermission.

Tori Weber scored the game winner for the Lopers when her shot from 12 yards out on the right side rolled by Hornet keeper Yadira Rivera at the 88:43 mark.

With the loss, Emporia State drops to 8-8-2 overall and 6-5-0 in the MIAA.  The Hornets finished the regular season tied for fifth in the MIAA and will be the sixth seed in the conference tournament this week.  Emporia State will travel to Edmond, Okla. on Wednesday, Nov. 2 to take on third seeded Central Oklahoma.  Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

NOTES
Emporia State and Central Missouri are the only two MIAA teams to have at least a .500 record at the end of the regular season in each of the last four years.
