November 2, 2016-Emporia State's season came to an end on Wednesday afternoon in a 2-0 loss at third seeded Central Oklahoma in the first round of the MIAA Women's Soccer Tournament in Edmond, Okla.

The two teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half before Katie Killion gave UCO a 1-0 lead just 1:21 into the second half. It was her ninth goal of the season. The Brochos made it 2-0 in the 70
th minute when Caitlin Moore scored off an assist from Kenzie Sublett.

With the loss Emporia State falls to 8-9-2 on the season, their first losing season since 2012. They finished 6-5 in the MIAA for their first winning record in conference action since 2004.

The Hornets will lose five seniors, led by third-team All-MIAA performers Jaide Allenbrand and Yadira Rivera. Allenbrand has one year of eligibility remaining but will graduate and is electing to forego her final season. Emporia State will return nine of the 11 players that scored a goal this season along with back-up keeper Astrid Buttner Costa who had two shutouts and a hand in a third while filling in for Rivera this year.
