TERRENCE MOORE GIVES EMPORIA STATE 67-66 WIN OVER MISSOURI WESTERN

Senior hits game winner with under ten seconds left

January 16, 2016-Terrence Moore hit a layup with under ten seconds left to give Emporia State a 67-66 win over Missouri Western on Saturday afternoon in White Auditorium.

SLOW START
Both teams struggled offensively to open the game, with the Griffons getting the first points of the game with 17:13 left in the first half.  They wold extend their lead to 6-0 before the Hornets finally got on the board with a Charles McKinney three-pointer with 14:21 left in the half. 

HEATING UP
McKinney's three would ignite an 8-0 run by Emporia State as they took an 8-6 lead with 12:45 remaining. After Missouri Western took a 24-20 lead the Hornets went on a 13-0 run capped by a Jay Temaat three pointer for a 33-24 advantage with 3:17 left in the half. 

SECOND HALF RUNS
The Hornets got a dunk from Charles McKinney on their first possession of the second half to take their biggest lead of the game at 37-26.  The Griffons would use a 13-0 run of their own to turn a nine point deficit into a four point lead at 51-47 with 10:05 remaining.  Emporia State answered with a 10-1 run to go up 57-52 on Devin Spencer's steal and dunk with 6:43 left.

GOT TO SEE THE LAST TWO MINUTES
Missouri Western scored six straight points to take a 66-60 lead with 1:57 left in regulation.  Moore scored with 1:33 left to cut the lead to four.  Aaron Emmanuel, who had a triple-double with 14 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists, missed a layup as the shot clock was running out with 58 seconds left and Spencer pulled the rebound.  Jay Temaat nailed a three-pointer with 49 seconds left to cut the deficit to 66-65.  With 17 seconds left Mataika Koyamainavure's shot was blocked by Spencer who got the rebound and gave it off to Moore.  The senior from Wichita drove the lane and scored with under ten seconds left.  With no timeouts left Western got the ball down cort and Emmanuel missed a layup and the Griffons could not get off another shot as the Hornets won their second straight game.

THE NUMBERS
Terrence Moore led all scorers with 18 points and added seven rebounds an six assists.  He was joined in dobule figures by Charles McKinney with 14 points.  Moore moved into sole possession of seventh place in the Emporia State career scoring list with 1,414 points.

UP NEXT
The Hornets will travel to Topeka on Saturday to take on Washburn.  Tip-off for the Turnpike Tussle is set for 7:00 p.m. in Lee Arena.
