September 6, 2015-Emporia State posted a shutout as they improved to 2-0 on the season with a 3-0 win over East Central (Okla.) at the MIAA/GAC Challenge in St. Joseph, Mo. It is the second straight season the Hornets have opened the year with two straight wins and just the third time in school history.
ON THE BOARD
Last year's leading scorer Grace Linton put the Hornets on the board with her first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 40th minute of play.
Amelie Heun gave the Hornets a 2-0 lead as she scored her third goal in two games on a header in the 51st minute.
Jaide Allenbrand followed five minutes later to give the Hornets a 3-0 lead off a corner kick.
OFF THE BOARD
Yadira Rivera faced just five shots as she posted her 17th career shutout four Emporia State.
HOT STARTS
The Hornets are 2-0 to start a season for just the third time in the 15 year history of the program. Emporia State started 3-0 last year, defeating East Central, Harding and St. Cloud State. The only other 2-0 start for the Hornets was in 2008 with wins over Angelo State and East Central.
