September 5, 2015-Emporia State came from behind to post a five set win over South Dakota School of Mines and Technology on Saturday afternoon to earn a split of their four matches at the Washburn Invitational.
COMEBACK
Emporia State won the first set 25-20 before falling 25-21 and 25-18 in the next two sets. The Hornets then rolled to a 25-13 win to force the fifth set.
The Hornets trailed 11-8 in the fifth before scoring five straight points and finished by winning seven of the last eight points for a 15-12 win.
It is the first time the Hornets have come from behind when trailing after three sets since a 27-29, 21-25, 25-18, 25-17, 15-11 win over Missouri Southen on October 3, 2014.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Emma Benton had a double double with 15 kills on .324 hitting with 13 digs.
Shayla Cotman hit .467 on the way to ten kills with five blocks.
Tatum Graves hit a team best .583 on seven of 12 hitting.
Josie Williams also had a double double with ten kills and 11 digs to go with three blocks.
After being held to .022 hitting as a team in their first match of the day, the Hornets answered with a .300 effort against South Dakota Mines and Tech.
