September 11, 2015-Emporia State opened play in the Lindenwood Invitational with a 3-1 win over Northwood (Mich.) on Friday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo.
BY THE NUMBERS
Josie Williams had a double-double with 13 kills and ten digs and was joined in double figure kills by Emma Benton with 12 kills.
Shayla Cotman had six kills and six blocks for the Hornets.
Danika Burton had nine kills on .412 hitting.
CLOSING OUT
The Hornets scored five of the last eight points to break a 20-20 tie in the first set. They closed the second set on an 8-3 run to post a 25-23 win. Emporia State outscored Northwood 4-2 after being down 23-19 but could not complete the comeback in a 25-23 loss in the third set and built a 24-19 lead before winning 25-22 in the fourth set.

The Hornets close out Friday's action in St. Charles with a 7:00 p.m. match against Mo.-St. Louis in Hyland Arena.
