September 4, 2015-Amelie Heun scored two goals to lead Emporia State to a 3-1 win over Harding in the season opener at the MIAA/GAC Challenge in St. Joseph, Mo. The Hornets have now won two straight season openers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Heun become the first Hornet to score more than one goal in a game since Jordan Foutch found the back of the net twice in last season's opener against East Central.
Jacki Martinek had the other goal for Emporia State, scoring in the 88th minute and just 3:20 after Heun scored her second goal.
COME BACK
Harding scored the first goal in the 17th minute to take a 1-0 lead before Heun scored on a penalty kick in the 34th minute to tie the match.
It was the first time Emporia State has come from behind for a win since a 2-1 win at then #19 Regis on Sept. 13, 2013 in Denver.
NEWBIES
The Hornets started six newcomers against Harding.
VETS
Six newcomers means five of the starters were veterans, including 2014 MIAA Goalkeeper of the Year Yadira Rivera. Rivera had six saves on the day.

Emporia State will take on East Central on Sunday to wrap up their part of the 2015 MIAA/GAC Challenge. Kick-off at Spratt Stadium in St. Joseph, Mo. is set for 11:00 a.m.
