MIAA MATCHUPS
Emporia State begins MIAA conference play this weekend in Missouri, facing top ranked Central Missouri on Friday and Lindenwood on Sunday. Friday's match is set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. in Warrensburg, Mo.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets fell to Ft. Hays State 3-2 in their return to the ESU Pitch on the Emporia State campus. The Hornets took a 1-0 lead on an Amelie Heun goal just 7:04 into the match.  Ft. Hays State tied the game and took the lead in the span of 27 seconds in the first half as the Hornets were called for a foul in the box then Ft. Hays State connected again after a scrum in front of the goal. The Tigers got an insurance goal with 12:27 left in the match on a Kylee Loneker goal. Heun scored with 9:15 remaining to bring the Hornets within one but proved not to be enough as the Hornets lost 3-2.
 
THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 27-38-15 in his fifth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history. He is 11-9-5 over his last 25 matches dating back to last year. He is 0-3-1 against Central Missouri and 0-1-1 against Lindenwood.
Lewis Theobald is in his ninth year of coaching at Central Missouri and holds a record of 130-23-17 with the Jennies.
Laurie Kaminski is in her 11th year of coaching at Lindenwood and holds a record of 92-76-18 with the Lions.
 
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
The Hornets have had four different scorers in the first six games of the season. The Hornets have attempted 71 goals to their opponents 44 and have outscored opponents 14-6 this year.  Amelie Heun is ranked number 10 in the nation in scoring and leads the Hornets with seven goals. Also scoring for the Hornets, Grace Linton with three goals, Jaide Allenbrand with two goals, Jacki Martinek and  McKenzie Koch each with one goal.
 
SCOUTING THE JENNIES
Central Missouri is 6-0-0 on the season. The Jennies have outscored their opponents 29-2 on the season. Julie Ireland has six goals, Mikala Modiri has five goals, and Megan Woolley four goals, Seven players hav at least two goals.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Emporia State trails 3-20-2 in the series against Central Missouri.  This will be the third straight meeting between the two teams in which the Jennies are nationally ranked.
 
LAST TIME AGAINST UCM
Shannon Thomas scored the first goal of the game on a free kick for ESU in the 42nd minute and the Hornets held the lead 1-0 into halftime. in the 57th minute Nicole Pond scored the equalizer for UCM and the Jennies took the lead in the 67th minute on a goal from Hannah Pyle that was assisted by Baylie Edwards.
 
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Lindenwood is 1-3-2 on the season. The Lions have attempted 57 shots to their opponents 90 being outscored by opponents 19-5 this season. Alexis Robbers is the Lions leading scorer with two goals.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Emporia State trails 0-1-2 in the series against Lindenwood and all three matches have gone to overtime.
 
LAST TIME AGAINST LWU
In a match that saw a total of 33 fouls, eight yellow cards and a red card, Emporia State and Lindenwood battled to a 1-1 tie at the EHS Pitch the Lions scored the first goal of the match in the 23rd minute. Grace Linton tied the game in the 66th minute for the Hornets with the assist coming from Ally Taylor.
 
UP NEXT
Emporia State will have a four game home stand starting with Northeastern State on Friday, October 2, in Emporia, Kan.  Then on Sunday, October 4, Emporia State will finish the weekend against Central Oklahoma.
