EMPORIA STATE SOCCER SHUTS OUT WASHBURN

43 fouls and seven yellow cards called in match

September 18, 2015-Emporia State ran it's record to 4-1 on the season with a 3-0 win at Washburn in this year's first soccer edition of the Turnpike Tussle.  It is the Hornets third shut out of the season.

SCORERS
The Hornets opened the scoring early when McKenzie Koch scored on a header from Amelie Heun just 4:59 into the match.  The score remained 1-0 until Heun headed a free kick from Koch in off the right post with just 4:27 left. Jaide Allenbrand sealed the match with a goal from Kelsey Wakefield's corner with 2:28 left.

STOPPERS
The Hornets posted their third shutout of the season, allowing just five Ichabod shots in the match. It was the 19th shutout of Yadira Rivera's career as she had four saves.

GETTING CHIPPY
There were a total of 43 fouls and seven yellow cards distributed in the match.  Emporia State had a school record 23 of the fouls and three of the yellows.

UP NEXT
The Hornets will play their home opener on Sunday against Ft. Hays State.  Kick-off is set for 2:00 p.m. at the ESU Pitch on the Emporia State campus.  It will be the first on campus match for the Hornets since 2012.
