EMPORIA STATE VOLLEYBALL DROPS A PAIR OF FIVE SET MATCHES

Hornets even record at 4-4 on the year

September 12, 2015-The Emporia State volleyball team dropped a pair of five set matches on Saturday at the Lindenwood Invitational in St. Charles, Mo.  The Hornets fell 3-2 to Harding in the first match of the day and then dropped a 3-2 decision to Ark.-Ft. Smith in the second match.

AGAINST HARDING
The Hornets led 2-1 after three sets, but saw the Bison take the final two sets in the 24-26, 25-19, 22-25, 25-22, 17-15 decision. Four players reached double figures in kills for Emporia State led by Shayla Cotman's 16 kills on .303 hitting. Jamie Hauptman had 13 kills on .387 hitting while Josie Williams added 13 and Emma Benton ten kills for the Hornets. Williams added 20 digs and Benton had ten digs as both recorded double doubles.  Kelly Holden had 27 digs in the five sets.

AGAINST ARK.-FT.-SMITH
Emporia State jumped out to a 2-0 lead but could not hold it in a 12-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-14, 15-9 loss to Ark.-Ft. Smith. The same four Hornets reached double figures in kills against the Lions. Benton had 14 kills and 13 digs while Williams had 11 kills and 21 digs as they each recorded double-doubles again.  Cotman had 13 kills while Hauptman added ten kills for the Hornets.  Holden had her fourth straight 20 dig match, finishing with 21 in the five sets.

UP NEXT
The Hornets are done with tournament play and will begin single match play on Tuesday against William Jewell.  First serve in Liberty, Mo. is set for 7:00 p.m.
