April 30, 2015- Emporia State Baseball defeats Lindenwood 9-3 in The Opening Round Series of The MIAA Tournament.
Lindenwood got off to an early lead, going up 2-0 in the top of the 1st inning on a two-run homerun hit by Nathan Prindle. The Hornets added three runs of their own in the bottom of the 2nd inning and kept the lead from there. Emporia State added five more runs in the 4th inning, including a three-run dinger hit by Dean Long (21), to make the lead 8-2. A Lindenwood error allowed the Hornets to add another run in the bottom of the 5th making the score 9-2 in favor of the Hornets. Lindenwood added their final run in the 8th inning on a hit and RBI from Ryan Light.
Dean Long lead the way for the Hornets offensively, with three RBI's. Justin Harris had two hits and two RBI for the Hornets and Jordan Hodges had a two RBI triple in the game.
Travis Hendry picked up the Win for Emporia State. He went 7.0 innings, gave up two earned runs on six hits with two walks and four K's. Hendry is now 9-1 on the season. The loss goes to Dylan Terrell from Lindenwood. He went 4.0 innings giving up six earned runs on seven hits.
The Opening Round Series of The MIAA Tournament will continue Friday, May 1, 2015 when The Hornets and Lions play at 5 p.m. at Glennen Field.
