March 3, 2015-For the first time since 2009, Emporia State has placed two players on the All-MIAA first-team and two players on the All-Defensive team. Senior Merissa Quick and sophomore Kelly Moten both earned first-team All-MIAA honors and were named to the All-Defensive team while Addie Lackey was named MIAA Freshman of the Year.

Quick was a unanimous first-team All-MIAA selection. She is ranked fourth in the nation in blocked shots as the Lady Hornets lead the nation in that category. She is second in the MIAA in blocks, tenth in rebounding and field goal percentage, 13th in free throw percentage and 25th in scoring. She was a two-time MIAA Player of the Week this season, one of only two players to earn the award in multiple weeks. She is the Emporia State career record holder with 298 blocked shots and set the Lady Hornet single season record with 95 blocks this year. She is ranked tenth in career scoring at Emporia State with 1,450 points and her 858 rebounds are sixth in Lady Hornet history. She is the only active player in NCAA Division II with at least 1,400 points, 850 rebounds, 250 blocks and 75 steals in her career and the only Lady Hornet to reach that milestone. She has been named Most Outstanding Player at the MIAA Tournament the last two years and is the first player in league history to win the award twice.

Moten is the leading scorer for the Lady Hornets and ranked seventh in MIAA in scoring. In conference games only she is ranked sixth in scoring and tenth in both assists and steals, the only player in the league to be in the top ten in all three categories. She has led Emporia State in scoring in 12 games this year with four games of at least 20 points. Last year she was just the fourth freshman named to the MIAA All-Tournament team.

Lackey is leading the MIAA in three-point field goal percentage on the year, is ninth in the league in assists and 14th in made three-pointers. She is the only freshman ranked in the top 15 of three different statistical categories. She has scored 273 points to rank 11th on the Lady Hornets all-time freshman scoring list and is eighth since Emporia State joined the MIAA. Her 84 assists are tied for fifth among freshmen since the Lady Hornets joined the MIAA. She is the sixth Lady Hornet to earn MIAA Freshman of the Year honors.
Cassondra Boston and Ida Edwards were the last duo to earn First-Team All-MIAA honors in the same season for the Lady Hornets in 2009. Edwards was joined on the All-Defensive team that year by Sophie Leonard. Emporia State has had a total of 20 First-Team All-MIAA selections in the last 19 years.
Emporia State is 22-4 on the season and finished 15-4 in the MIAA to earn the second seed in this weekend's MIAA Tournament. They will play either Missouri Western or Lincoln on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. in the quarterfinals at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. The Lady Hornets are the two-time defending MIAA Tournament Champions.
