EMPORIA STATE BASEBALL SPLITS DOUBLE HEADER WITH SOUTHWEST BAPTIST

March 28, 2015- Emporia State Baseball split a double header with Southwest Baptist on Saturday.

The Hornets lost game one 5-4 in extra innings. Emporia State took a 4-0 lead in the second inning on RBI doubles from Price Jacobs and Cody Bobbit to go with RBI singles from Tyler Beebe and Justin Harris.  The Bearcats chipped away getting a single run in the third, two in the fourth and another in fifth to tie the game. Neither team scored in the sixth or seventh of the scheduled seven inning game. In the top of the eighth Jake Vore hit a solo home run for SBU that would end up as the game winner.

Jacobs and Bobbit lead the Hornets offensively, with each of them recording two hits, an RBI, and each scoring a run.

Michael Proiette got the win for the Bearcats. He went 7.2 innings, allowed seven hits with zero earned runs and also recorded eight strikeouts. Garrett Brummett, now 3-2 on the season, received the lose for the Hornets. Brummett went 6.1 innings, gave up six hits and four earned runs. He also recorded three walks and seven K's.

The Hornets would bounce back in game two, defeating the Bearcats 12-6. Emporia State again got off to a fast start and kept it going. The Hornets scored three times in both the first and second innings and added four runs in the third to take a 10-0 lead. The Bearcats got on the board with two runs in the top of the fourth but Emporia State answered with single runs in the bottom of the fourth and the fifth.  SBU scored two runs in the sixth and again in the seventh for the final 12-6 margin.

Justin Harris had three hits and scored two runs for the Hornets. Tyler Beebe had three hits with two RBI's and scored two runs and Johnny Hodges had a hit with three RBI's a walk and a run scored.

Travis Hendry, now 5-1 on the season, picked up the win for Emporia State. He went 5.0 innings, gave up six hits with two earned runs, a walk and six K's. Cole Roark got the loss for the Bearcats. Roark went 2.0 innings, allowed nine hits with six earned runs, with two walks and two strikeouts.

The Hornets are back in action Sunday March 29, 2015 when they face Southwest Baptist in another double header starting at noon at Glennen Field.
