March 24, 2015-Emporia State scored three runs in the top of the ninth to defeat Central Missouri on Tuesday in Warrensburg, Mo.
The Mules got on the board first with a single run in the second inning. Justin Harris doubled and would later score on a sac fly by Wade Hanna to tie the score in the third. Central Missouri retook the lead with a single run in the bottom of the fourth. The Hornets took their first lead with two runs in the top of the fifth on a RBI ground out from Price Jacobs and a run scoring single by Garrett McKinzie. Central Missouri retied the game with a run in the sixth.
After a scoreless seventh and eighth, McKinzie led off the ninth with a double. Levi Parker pinch ran for him and with two outs scored when Jordan Hodges singled and came home on a throwing error. Dean Long was then hit by a pitch to put runners and first and second. Evan Koehler doubled in both of them to give the Hornets a 6-3 lead going to the bottom of the ninth. Shawn Talkington came on to pitch the ninth and struck out the side for his second straight save.
Koehler was three for five with two RBI and a run scored while Harris was three for five with a run scored.
The Hornets are back in action this weekend for a four game series against Southwest Baptist starting on Friday.
