February 7, 2015-Emporia State had a one point lead with under four minutes left but Ft. Hays State hit 12 of 14 free throws down the stretch on the way to a 73-66 Tiger win on Saturday in Hays, Kan.
The Hornets jumped out to an 8-2 lead and led 28-12 with 8:25 left in the half. The Tigers used a 12-2 run to pull within 30-24 and would pull within a point at 34-33 with 37 seconds remaining. Terrence Moore hit a pair of free throws to give the Hornets a 36-33 lead at the break.
There were five ties and 11 lead changes in the second half. Dom Samac hit the Tigers last field goal with 3:33 remaining to give Ft. Hays State a 61-60 lead. Terrence Moore hit one of two free throws for the Hornets to tie the game at 61 with 3:11 left. The Tigers finished the game making 12 of 14 free throws while Emporia State missed four shots before Moore hit a jumper in the lane with 25.8 seconds left. After two free throws from Achoki Moikobu gave Ft. Hays State a 20.6 seconds left, Moore hit a three with 6.8 seconds left to cut the lead to 71-66. Moikobu hit two more free throws with 3.7 left for the final score.
Moore led Emporia State with 17 points and three steals. He was joined in double figures by Jevon Taylor with 11 and Micah Swank with ten points, while Spencer Gales had a career high eight rebounds.
The Hornets are back in action on Thursday night when they play host to Northeastern State. Tip-off for the game with huge MIAA Tournament implications is set for 7:30 p.m.
