EMPORIA STATE MEN FALL TO NORTHEASTERN STATE BY TEN

Hornets fall to 11-13 on the year

February 12, 2015-Emporia State could not overcome a one for 11 effort from the three-point line in the first half as they fell 73-63 to Northeastern State on Thursday in White Auditorium.

The RiverHawks got out to a 15-5 lead with 13:00 minutes left in the half.  The Hornets went without a field goal from the 18:04 mark until a tip-in by Jevon Taylor with 12:36 left, hitting just one free throw in the 5:29 span. A Jay Temaat tip-in cut the lead to five with 7:00 left in the half but Northeastern State would push the lead to 15 points with 2:41 remaining and led 32-19 at the break.

Micah Swank hit a three-pointer and Terrence Sardin scored on a put back to start the second half for Emporia State and cut the lead to 32-24 with 19:05 left.  Northeastern used a 7-0 run to take a 57-41 lead with 10:01 left.  The Hornets answered with an 8-0 run of their own to cut the lead to 57-49 with 7:13 left on a three pointer from Tyler Jordan.  An old-fashioned three-point play by Swank cut the lead to seven at 59-52 with 5:09 remaining, but that would be as close as the Hornets would get.  The RiverHawks were able to convert six of eight free throws in the final 1:59 to preserve the win.

Swank led Emporia State with 15 points, five rebounds and five assists and was joined in double figures by Moore with 14 points, five rebounds and three steals and Temaat with 13 points and five rebounds.

The Hornets will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Central Oklahoma.  Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m, in White Auditorium.
