EMPORIA STATE SOCCER POSTS SHUTOUT OF NORTHWEST MISSOURI

Hornets get sixth shutout of season

October 9, 2015-Emporia State posted their fifth shutout of the season and the first combined shutout by the Hornets since 2012 in a 3-0 win over Northwest Missouri on Friday night at the EHS Pitch.

KEEP 'EM COMING
For the ninth time in 11 matches the Hornets scored multiple goals.  Kelsey Wakefield got things started with a shot form 15 yards out off an assist from McKenzie Koch in the 14th minute.  Emporia State made it 2-0 when Maria Walden took a ball down the right side and put it in the upper left corner from 25 yards out in the 50th minute of action.  Amelie Heun found Grace Linton, who beat a defender and fired a shot in from 15 yards out in the 60th minute to complete the scoring.

KEEP 'EM OUT
The Hornets were able to record their fifth shutout of the season despite starter Yadira Rivera leaving the match with 28:47 remaining after getting shaken up on a play in the box.  With Emporia State leading 3-0 Astrid Buttner Costa made her first appearance for the Hornets and recorded one save the rest of the match.  It was the first time since a 6-1 win over Missouri Southern on October 27, 2013 that someone other than Rivera played between the pipes for the Hornets.

RECORD TIME
The seven wins are the most by a Hornet team after 11 matches in school history.
Heun moved into second place by herself on the Emporia State single season scoring list with 22 points.

UP NEXT
The Hornets return to the Emporia State campus on Sunday to take on Missouri Western.  Kick-off from the ESU Pitch north of the Student Rec Center is set for 2:00 p.m.
