EMPORIA STATE SOCCER DROPS FIRST OT GAME OF SEASON

Hornets lose 4-3 to Central Oklahoma

October 4, 2015-Playing in their first overtime match of the season, Emporia State dropped a 4-3 decision to Central Oklahoma five minutes into the first extra frame.  It is the first OT match for the Hornets since October 18, 2013, a 1-0 loss at Lindenwood.

PLAYING FROM BEHIND
Central Oklahoma got on the board first with Kentia Kokis goal in the 20th minute.  Emporia State answered with a Kelsey Wakefield goal from Amelie Heun in the 28th minute to tie the score.  The Bronchos quickly got back on top with a Falyn Dodd goal 17 seconds later to take a 2-1 lead.
Wakefield scored her second goal of the game, again on a Heun assist, for Emporia State with 2:53 left in the first half to send the teams to the break tied at 2-2. Katie Killion, who assisted on the Bronchos second goal, gave UCO a 3-2 lead in the 58th minute.  Jacki Martinek tied the game at 3-3 with just under 30 minutes remaining in regulation from three yards out on an assist from McKenzie Koch.

GOLDEN GOAL
The Bronchos scored the game winner 5:08 into the first overtime when Kokis scored from about 12 yards out on an assist from Dodd.

EXTRA FRAMES
This was the first overtime for Emporia State this year.  They were involved in five overtimes last year, all of which ended in ties.
This was the first overtime loss for Emporia State at home since a 2-1 loss to Missouri Western on October 7, 2012.
This was the highest scoring overtime game in Emporia State history.  The Hornets have been involved in two 3-3 ties in the 15 year history of the program.
