October 20, 2015 - Emporia State took #9 Rockhurst to four sets Tuesday night at home, 25-23, 25-15, 25-23, 25-14. The match saw 22 total tie scores.
GOOD START
The Hornets had 18 kills in the first set holding Rockhurst to 12 kill and a .111 hitting percentage. It was a tight set throughout, with the largest lead being three points. The score was tied at 23-23 when Emporia State took the set 25-23 on back-to-back kills from Jamie Hauptman and Torrie Rupe.
FINAL THREE SETS
Rockhurst showed why they were ranked ninth in the nation, coming back to win the next three sets. The Hornets jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the second set, only for the Hawks to make a 6-2 run to to tie the game at 6-6. Rockhurst would not look back, winning the second set 25-15. The third set was tight throughout, neither team taking more than a three point lead. The Hornets were tied 20-20 with the Hawks who then went on to score five of the final eight points. In the final set Rockhurst hit .385 while holding the Hornets to .093 in a 25-14 Hawks win.
NUMBERS
Tatum Graves had 15 kills on .379 hitting to lead the Hornets. She was joined in double figures by Josie Williams with 11 kills. Kelly Holden had a match high 24 digs.
DIG FOR THE CURE
Emporia State fans raised over $1,200 for the June Bug Cancer Foundation during their annual Dig for the Cure game.
