October 2, 2015-Emporia State improved to 6-3-0 on the season with a 2-0 shut out of Northeastern State on Friday night at the Emporia HS Pitch.
DO IT YOURSELF
Both of the Hornets goals were of the unassisted variety. Ally Taylor gave Emporia State a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute when she took a ball around a defender on the right side of the goal and booted it into the upper left hand corner from about ten yards out. It was the first time this season the RiverHawks had been scored on in the first half. Amelie Heun then made it 2-0 when she kicked a rebound off the post backwards over her head for her ninth goal of the season.
STOPPING THE SHOTS
Yadira Rivera had five saves as she posted her fourth shut out of the season. This one came against the second highest scoring team in the MIAA as the RiverHawks entered the match with 29 goals in their first eight matches.
MOVING UP THE CHARTS
Heun's ninth goal of the season moved her into a tie with Melodie Zdanek for the second most in a single season at Emporia State. The shut out added to Rivera's career school record as she has now posted 20 clean sheets in three year career.
GOOD START
The win improved Emporia State to 6-3-0 on the season, the most wins after the first nine matches of a season in school history.
