October 17, 2015 - Emporia State was swept by the Bearcats of Northwest Mo. in White Auditorium, 23-25, 21-25, 24-26, on Saturday night.
TIGHT THREE SETS
Throughout the three sets there were a total of 17 ties, four lead changes in the third and final set alone. In the first set the Hornets tied the Bearcats at 21 on a Kelly Holden service ace. Northwest Mo. then went on a 4-2 run to end the set 25-23. In the second set Emporia State tied the Bearcats at 14 on block assists by Danika Burton and Jamie Hauptman. The Bearcats then maintained the lead from that point, ending the set 25-21. In the third and final set the Hornets were down 10-16 when they took advantage of block assists from Tatum Graves and Julia Joseph to go on an 8-2 run to tie the game at 18. There would then been five ties after the one at 18, only for the Bearcats to win 26-24.
KEY PLAYERS
Leading the offense for the Hornets tonight, Torrie Rupe had nine kills and ten digs. Jamie Hauptman wasn't far behind with eight kills on 18 attacks for a .333 hitting percentage. Julia Joseph led the Hornets on defense with 16 digs while Shayla Cotman and Danika Burton helped with their five and four block assists, respectively. Setters Kimberly Bell and Sydney Hartman both had 18 assists for Emporia State.
