#2 LADY HORNETS COMEBACK COMES UP SHORT AGAINST #6 FT. HAYS STATE

Emporia State 23 game home court winning streak is snapped

January 28, 2015-The #2 Lady Hornets cut a 20 point deficit in the first half down to seven points with 9:59 left but couldn't get any closer in a 65-55 loss to #6 Ft. Hays State on Wednesday night in White Auditorium.  The loss snapped a 23 game home court winning streak for Emporia State.

The Tigers got out to a 10-4 lead with 15:19 left in the first half and never trailed on the night.  Ft. Hays State used an 18-8 run to take a 35-15 lead with 4:10 left in the half.  Emporia State held the Tigers scoreless for rest of the period but could only score six points themselves to cut the lead to 35-21 as the teams went to the locker rooms.

Ft. Hays State pushed the lead back to 20 points in the first 3:04 of the second half and led 45-25 with 14:57 left.  The Lady Hornets then went on a 19-6 run to cut the lead to 51-44 on a three-pointer with 9:59 left.  The Tigers hit a three-pointer with 9:00 left for the only score for either team over the next five minutes until Kelsey Barnwell hit a jumper with 5:02 remaining.  A three-pointer from Chelsea Mason put the Tigers lead back into double figures with 4:43 left. Kelly Moten hit a jumper with 3:32 to cut the lead to nine.  Back to back buckets by Nikola Kacperska and Kate Lehman gave the Tigers a 61-48 lead at the 2:31 mark.  IT would be the last field goal for Ft. Hays State who hit four of ten free throws down the stretch to keep the Lady Hornets at bay.

Quick led Emporia State with 14 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots and was joined in double figures by Kathryn Flott with 11 points and Moten and Addie Lackey with ten each.

The Lady Hornets are back in action on Sunday when they play host to Nebraska-Kearney.  Tip-off on Super Bowl Sunday is set for 1:00 p.m.
