Emporia State cuts 15 point lead to three before falling 79-74 at WU

February 5, 2014-The Emporia State men cut a 15 point deficit to three but could not complete the comeback in a 79-74 loss at Washburn.  The Hornets outscored the Ichabods by nine from the field but were outrebounded by 21 and outscored from the free throw line by 14 points.

Emporia State fell behind 7-0 to start the game but were able to come back to within 9-8 on a dunk by Terrence Moore.  Washburn took the lead back up to ten points and would go into the half with a 36-31 advantage.

A 7-2 run by the Hornets to start the second half tied the socre at 38 with 17:08 left in the game. The Ichabods pushed the lead back to 15 points with 9:38 left.  Washburn benefitted from a seven point possession when Paul Bunch was called for his third personal and then picked up a technical at the 10:22 mark. 

Emporia State had one last run in them as they went on a 10-0 run to cut the lead to 70-67 with 1:48 left. Washburn would then hit seven of ten free throws in the final 1:10 to ice the win.

Moore led Emporia State with a career high 28 points and Wright added 20 points.

Emporia State returns to Slaymaker Court at White Auditorium on February 8 to take on #23 Ft. Hays State.  Tip-off on Saturday is set for 5:30 p.m.
