Hornets to host first round MIAA Tourney game on Tuesday

February 26, 2014-Emporia State went 12 of 21 from the free throw line in the second half in an 84-76 loss at Pittsburg State on Wednesday night in Pittsburg, Kan.

The Hornets jumped out to a 9-3 lead and had a 36-25 margin with 2:04 left in the half on a Kaleb Wright jumper.  The Gorillas ended the half on a 9-2 run to pull within four at the break.

Emporia State scored the first three points of the second half to take a 41-34 lead with 19:26 left.  A paul Bunch tip in gave the Hornets a 49-45 lead with 14:51 remaining when Pitt State went on a 7-0 run to take the lead for good. The Gorillas had a 67-61 lead with 5:59 remaining when the Hornets went on a 5-0 run to pull within a point when Terrence Moore hit a layup and was fouled.  He missed the free throw that would have tied the game with 4:58 left the Gorillas answered with a 9-1 run to take control of the game. 

Pitt State hit ten of 12 free throws in the final five minutes of action while Emporia State went two for seven from the line in th same time.

Kaleb Wright led Emporia State with 23 points and Terrence Moore added 22 points.  Paul Bunch had a game high 11 rebounds with six points and two blocked shots.

The Hornets will host a first round MIAA Tournament game on Tuesday night on Slaymaker Court at White Auditorium.  The opponent is yet to be determined but tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
