February 12, 2014-Merissa Quick scored 23 points to lead #7 Emporia State to an 80-61 victory over Northeastern State and become the 27th Lady Hornet to score 1,000 points in her career. The RiverHawks had handed the Lady Hornets their first loss of the season earlier this season.
Much like the first game between the two Northeastern State took an early lead by milking the shot clock and scoring with under five seconds remaining on their first two possessions. Trailing 6-3, Emporia State went on a 7-0 run to take the lead for good at 10-6 with 15:25 left in the half.
Emporia State took a 34-27 lead into the break as Quick scored 13 points in the opening frame. The RiverHawks closed to within five points at 50-45 with 13:12 left when the Lady Hornets took control for good with an 11-1 run. The lead would reach 19 points with 1:03 left when Quick hit her 1000th point with 1:03 left in the game.
Quick led all scorers with 23 points and was joined in double figures by Rheanna Egli with 15 points while Desiree Wylie added 13 points and eight rebounds.
The Lady Hornets will hit the road on Saturday to take on Central Oklahoma. Tip-off from Hamilton Field House in Edmond, Okla. is set for 1:30 p.m.
