#1 LADY HORNETS IMPROVE TO 7-0 WITH WIN OVER NEWMAN

Six Lady Hornets in double figures in win

December 6, 2014-Addie Lackey scored 15 points with eight assists to lead six Lady Hornets in double figures as #1 Emporia State defeated Newman 85-49 in White Auditorium on Saturday night.

Emporia State jumped out to a 9-0 lead to open the game and did not allow the Jets to score until the 15:21 mark.  The Lady Hornets led by as many as 21 in the first half before settling in for a 40-27 lead at the break.

An 11-0 run early in the second half gave Emporia State a 53-28 lead with 13:59 left in the game. A 6-0 run by Newman cut the deficit to 19 points with 12:13 remaining, but a put back by Whitney Gordon and a three pointer from Kyrstie Miller put Emporia State back up by 24 and the lead would not drop below 21 the rest of the night.

Lackey was joined in double figures by Kelly Moten and Kelsey Barnwell with 12 points each, Miller and Merissa Quick each scored 11 and Ashton Bruner added a career high ten points. Amber Vandiver had nine rebounds off the bench.

The top ranked Lady Hornets will concentrate on academics as Finals Week comes to Emporia State.  The next action for the Lady Hornets will be on December 13 at Southwest Baptist.
