December 13, 2014-Kelly Moten had a career high 24 points as #1 Emporia State defeated Southwest Baptist 74-63 on Saturday afternoon in Bolivar, Mo.  The Lady Hornets trailed 25-22 at the half and scored 52 second half points to improve to 8-0 on the season.

Neither team scored until Moten got on the board with 17:41 left in the half. That started a personal 9-0 run for the sophomore as the Lady Hornets led 9-0 with 15:41 left.  The Bearcats responded with an 11-0 run of their own to take the lead with 12:25 remaining. They pushed the lead to six at 18-12 with 7:59 left in the period. Emporia State fought back to tie the score at 20 but Southwest Baptist ended the half on a 5-2 run to take a 25-22 lead to the lockerrooms.

Emporia State scored the first four points of the second half to retake the lead and led 34-30 with 17:16 left on an old fashioned three-point play by Merissa Quick.  Southwest Baptist answered with a 7-0 run and led 37-34 with 15:18 remaining. A Moten three-pointer at the 11:46 mark gave the Lady Hornets the lead at 41-39 in the middle of a 10-2 Emporia State run.  The lead would reach 15 points before Emporia State settled in for the 11 point victory.

Moten was joined in double figures by Amber Vandiver who added eight rebounds.  Addie Lackey and Quick each added nine points.

The Lady Hornets will hit the road for a regional contest at Southern Arkansas on Wednesday.  Tip-off from Magnolia, Ark. is set for 6:00 p.m.
