HORNETS HAVE FOUR IN DOUBLE FIGURES IN WIN OVER ROCKHURST

Emporia State hit 13 of 24 three pointers

December 6, 2014-Jay Temaat went seven of ten from the three-point line for 21 points as Emporia State defeated Rockhurst 92-63 on Saturday night in White Auditorium. The Hornets combined to shoot 54.2% from three point range in the win.

After slow starts in their last two games, the Hornets jumped out to an 11-1 lead in the first 2:37 of action.  Four of five starters scored in the opening run.  Rockhurst would cut the lead to four at 18-14 on a three-pointer by Josh Roberts with 14:17 left before Temaat hit the first of hist seven three pointers to ignite an 11-4 run. Perryonte Smith had a steal and score to give the Hornets their biggest lead of the first half at 13 with 6:30 left before settling for a 36-29 advantage at the break.

An 11-2 run capped by back to back three-pointers from Smith and Temaat pushed the lead to 21 points a 65-44 with 10:07 left. An old-fashioned three point play on a put back by Nick Mayes gave the Hornets their biggest lead of the night at 90-61 with 1:22 left in the game.

Temaat and Jevon Taylor combined to go 12 of 18 from behind the arc as Taylor added 17 points.  They were joined in double figures by Josh Pedersen and McWisdom Badejo with ten points each.  Micah Swank had eight of the Hornets 23 assists on the night.

The Hornets will now concentrate on the academic side of things during Finals Week at Emporia State.  The next action on the hardwood will be at Southwest Baptist on December 13 in Bolivar, Mo.

NOTES
The Hornets leading scorer Terrence Moore suited up but did not play after suffering a shoulder injury against Northwest Missouri on Wednesday.
